Great Strategies For Sit And Go Tournaments
/2008-07-14/
Any poker game or a tournament has its own approach. For you to win, you need to know the basic principles applied to each tournament or kind of game. If you apply the tactics of one to the other, you may not be able to win, though your game could be played with utmost skill. In the sit and go tournaments, you also have to consider many important concepts.
First, when you go to play a sit and go tournament, you should not gamble too early. In other words, it is not advisable to go all in. It will be dangerous to throw most of your chips or the hands where there is a great chance of gaining an advantage. If you go on to lose here, you can bust out, which means you will have lost your buy-in, but if you win, then for sure you will double up. When you double up, it doesn’t mean you will have already doubled your money. The point here is that you should always leave yourself some chips so that in case your game seems to go against you, you can use the remaining chips to try and determine what steps need to be taken to save your game.
Now coming to the second strategy. Here the secret is to maintain a good stack and assuming that the blinds have not escalated as yet. If this is the case, then you can take flops which have marginal hands in the late position especially, without fear. Most players in a tournament fail to take enough flops unless the pot is raised. This is a problem which will in the long run hamper winning.
Another strategy is getting aggressive in middle of the tournament. The momentum in the tournament keeps on increasing. Somehow, as in the first strategy, you should not gamble too early. One may be tempted to remain on the defensive. But now be warned - you don’t have much time to look and wait for nuts. You should be willing to take some risks in the middles stages of the tournament. But you should always consider you stack size. If the stack is moderate in size, then you can go on to take some risks. But if its small you have to be cautious. You should not make the mistake of folding too much on the blind as most of the players do in the middle stages of the tournament. The secret here is to always watch your stack, take the necessary risk to win the game, rather than be defensive and give your opponent an edge.
