The Truth About Poker Tells And Winning Poker For Beginners, A Few Tips
Almost everyone who plays poker has tried to use tells. We usually watch our opponents for tells and then try to trap our opponents using a false tell. The problem is, how do you know whether or not your opponent is using a false tell? The truth is, you usually don't and it doesn't take a lot of cunning or guile to use a false tell, so many people, particularly beginners will try to use them. Most pros, on the other hand, will very rarely try to use a false tell, but will play and do their best not to give a tell.
If your opponent uses a false tell, it may work or may not. Then the problem is, how do you know whether or not your opponent will use the same tactic again, whether or not it worked the first time. That is a lot of guessing and trying to catch your opponent. At the same time you may be trying to use a false tell or perhaps you are trying not to give a tell. It gets very complicated and while you are expending all that energy, you may just be missing some very simple poker moves that could benefit you a lot more.
If you want to be an actor, I suggest you go to acting school and pursue a career on the stage or screen. Play what I call "clean" poker and life will be a lot simpler and you will still win a lot of pots. Above all else, when you are starting to play poker, keep it simple. Just developing good poker instincts and then going with your intuition will work better than all that scheming.
The difference between intuition and instincts and actually plotting and scheming to deceive your opponent, is that instincts and intuition require little conscious thought or energy. They are natural and will allow you to use your brain power for more academic things, like counting outs, following bets, calculating pot odds, and other worthwhile pursuits.
