Thomas Bihl has always been competitive. Growing up in his native Germany, his entire family was seriously involved in sports, and he developed the will to win early on. His desire to excel stayed with him, and eventually led to a successful career as a stockbroker. In the summer of 2004, he “found” poker and took his usual tenacious approach, dedicating himself to the game.

Thomas spent several months playing, reading books on poker, and analyzing both broadcast tournaments and his own game. It was time well spent. Over the course of the next few months, he cashed in five European tournaments, making the final table in two of them.

His big tournament debut came at the 2005 WSOP Circuit Championship in New Orleans. Thomas went deep in the $10K No-Limit Hold ‘em event, taking home over $14K. Back in Europe, he continued to post respectable cash finishes and to build a solid bankroll. The following year, he cashed in the 2006 WSOP in the $2K No-Limit Hold ‘em Shootout and made an impressive six final tables on the European circuit.

But it was in 2007 that Thomas made his strongest appearances to date. Coming off of an impressive WSOP cash finish in the $1K No-Limit Hold ‘em event in July, he went to London for the WSOPE. Thomas fought his way to the front of the pack in the £2.5K HORSE tournament, facing Team Full Tilt’s Chris Ferguson and Jennifer Harman at the final table. He went on to win the event, taking home over £70K and his first bracelet.

Given his ability and desire to continually improve his game, we will likely see a lot more of Thomas. If you want to see him in action, look for him playing online at Full Tilt Poker.
