Texas Hold'em A Hot Draw On Facebook

FEATURES

It’s been called revolutionary, a fad and the second coming of MySpace, but regardless of the label, chances are you’ve heard of Facebook.

Started in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, the social networking site is so popular that it has received bids from online giants Yahoo, Google and Microsoft—all of whom covet Facebook’s collective 45 million active users.

Amongst the features available are a friend search, photo and video albums, a YouTube box, poll question creator as well as a number of gaming applications including Jewel Quest, Blackjack and Texas Hold’em, with gambling games played with virtual chips and not Real Money.

In the case of Texas Hold’em, players are given 200 virtual chips on sign up and awarded an additional 500 with for every person they invite.

While the legality of Real Money play may be in doubt, there is no doubting online poker’s popularity and Facebook’s Free Play Hold’em applications are a top draw—no pun intended.

In fact, a September 10, 2007 article in the L.A. Times estimates that close to 130,000 players log in to play Texas Hold’em on Facebook each day.

Unlike online poker rooms with only one type of downloadable software, the site’s networking capabilities allow for a better selection of Hold’em applications as users are able offer their own unique versions of the popular game.

One of the Texas Hold’em applications, created by Mario Velasquez, is an application best suited for the poker playing novice.
