PKR crowns first master

/2008-03-03/

LONDON, England -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- PKR.com hosted its biggest ever tournament last weekend and totalled over $160,000 won on the site.

A range of big money guarantees rolled from Friday night through to Sunday with the jewel in the crown, the $75,000 guaranteed 'PKR Masters', lighting up Saturday night. The $250 buy-in event attracted 369 players raising the total prize pool to $92,000. The winner, 'floyd07' battled for more than nine hours to win the coveted title and $23,000 for first place.

The landmark event caused a stir in the PKR.com community with its tempting first prize and impressive tournament structure. Cardroom Manager Neil Wright said, "We're obviously delighted with the turnout, breaking the guarantee by a considerable margin. It certainly justifies the decision to change our tournament structure so players get maximum time, enjoyment and value for their buy-in. The Masters is a tournament for the players' player, and we look forward to continued growth in size and prestige of the event."

While many players bought into the tournament direct for $250, the majority found their way in via a huge range of satellites that allowed PKR.com players to take their shot at the Masters for as little as $3 (or for free with PKR Points). One final table participant turned his free entry to a promotional satellite into the second place prize of $13,000, while others gained entry through super-satellites and one-hand Sit & Go's. Satellites to the next PKR Masters on 29 March are rolling right now and are already attracting players at a rate that suggests the next one will be even bigger.

A record weekend concluded with the $25,000 guaranteed 'Sunday Classic' boasting a first prize of $6,250.
